John Richards Landscape Architects have been commissioned by Applecross Properties to prepare landscape proposals for their
housing development in Edinburgh's New Town.

The housing, designed by Comprehensive Design Architects, focuses on a communal central court area which is located above an
underground car park. The brief therefore required a green roof design which could be used by the residents. Key to the design is a large
purpose built planter with integrated benches and tables. The planting focuses on a group of semi-mature cypress trees in a bed of ferns,
periwinkle and ivy, backed by honeysuckle climbers. Golden stemmed bamboo plants in individual planters complete the composition.

The housing is currently being constructed and the landscaping will be completed in Autumn 2005.
