John Richards Landscape Architects have been commissioned by Sundial Properties to prepare landscape proposals for their housing
development in Ravelston Terrace, Edinburgh.

The housing, designed by Allan Murray Architects, focuses on a communal roof garden which is located above an underground car
park. This includes an pergola seating area, and in contrast, a more open seating area focused in the form of a Sundial, we are
developing this in conjunction with a local artist. An avenue of Yoshino Cherries is a key feature of the planting design. These broad flat
crowned trees have arching branches which create a weeping effect and almond scented white blossom in March and April. A specimen
winter flowering cherry and two white stemmed Himalayan Birch will also create interest throughout the winter months. An extensive
bed of shrub planting completes composition, here a mix shrubs and herbaceous plants will create life and interest to the roof garden
throughout the year.

The housing is currently being completed and the landscaping will be completed in Spring 2009.
